The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) has made good on its threat to stage protest action at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA).
Promptly at 12pm today, unionized workers, led by NUPW President Akanni McDowall and General Secretary Roslyn Smith, moved off from the airport’s car park, having failed to receive a favourable response from the GAIA management to its demand for payment of outstanding increases of 3.5 per cent dating back to 2010.

Today’s organized protest takes place under the watchful eyes of police and involves all categories of workers, except of customs, immigration and air traffic control.
It was not immediately clear what impact the action was having on the airport’s operations.
